The new NERT Tee and Sweat Shirts are Here! "Duty Blue" with white ink printing, these shirts feature the familiar NERT logo - with Phoenix rising - on the front. On the back, the words "San Francisco NERT" feature prominently.
The Tee Shirt: 100% cotton, Fruit of the Loom "Lofteez" stock, rich "Duty Blue" color, with white ink. Rich white ink - slightly brighter than the SFFD shirts. The imprint is just as sharp. Short sleeves.
The Sweat Shirt: 90% cotton, 10% synthetic for a long lasting sweat with that "fleecy" feel on the inside. Same color as the tees. The same "Duty Blue" with the "bright" White printing, as seen on the shirts. Just as sharp. Long sleeves, to keep you warm on cool assignments.
The white imprints, while brilliant, are not "reflective".

For those who are unfamiliar with the program, NERT is short for Neighborhood Emergency Response Team. The San Francisco Fire Department sponsors the training and the program. There are trained teams in just about every San Francisco neighborhood - about 10,000 civilian members in all. Click here to visit the NERT Web Site.
History of the NERT Shirt
1st Generation: 1993, The black shirt with the white logo on front, a personal project of Bill Cereske and Rich Holloch, then Chairman of the Advisory Board. Although they were of top quality materials, they were so much loved and worn, that they are worn out these days. Extremely rare.
In 1994 the same design was applied to a yellow shirt, with gold lettering. Not really a generational change. It didn't work very well, as you couldn't see the printing. That was someone else's project!
2nd Generation: In 1997 or 1998 Bill financed the 2nd generation of the shirt, with great logistical help from Bob Jacklevich: "Duty Blue with White Ink" and it was the "de facto" standard until November, 2001. Bob J. and Firefighter Bob are different people, you know.
3rd Generation: In 1999, Firefighter Bob made the "NERT Celebrates 10 years of Service" shirt, using a design worked out by Bob Jacklevich - with a professional designer's donated assistance - for the April Drill. "Duty Blue", with white printing. A collector's item today.
4th Generation: Firefighter Bob made a gray shirt with black printing in 2000. A unique shirt, no longer available.
Mid 2001: SFFDGear opens for business, stepping into the vacuum left by the closing of the Clothing Depot at Station 20.
5th Generation: November, 2001: An improvement over the 2nd Generation. The same front, with Phoenix and "Neighborhood Emergency Response Team". The same "Duty Blue" but with "San Francisco NERT" on the back. The back is similar to the SFFD "Station Duty" shirt, displaying the unique bond between the SFFD and it's Disaster Volunteer Corps: NERT. Made by Firefighter Bob, and showing his experience and skill that only comes with years of practice. Now available in a Sweat Shirt as well. This is the current "Standard" shirt. A major change.
